How do I bring up GLP-1s with my doctor?
Two sentences. One names a comorbidity, one names your diet history.
Walk in with the two sentences that a prior authorization actually turns on.
On comorbidity: “I am struggling with [comorbidity] and my current weight is impacting my quality of life.”
On diet history: “I have a documented history of [previous weight loss attempt] with unsustainable results.”
That is not manipulation. It is giving your doctor the two facts the insurer will ask them for, in the words the form wants. Bring a list of your comorbidities (PCOS, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, insulin resistance) and your previous failed diets by name.
None of this is medical advice. It is educational material drawn from FAT BITCH: Killing the Willpower Myth by Cat Clark, and it does not replace your prescriber, your pharmacist, or your actual doctor. If something here does not match what your care team told you, go with your care team and bring this along to the conversation.
