Muscle Loss
Loss of lean muscle mass.
Why it happens
Since we are eating fewer calories for fuel, muscle is broken down for energy along with stored-up fat reserves.
How to prevent it
Strength training and bodyweight exercises 3 times a week will help maintain muscle and prevent net loss.
How to treat it
Protein. Every time you eat, think protein first, then fiber. We are trying to reach 100 grams per day through food and supplements.
When to call a doctor
When muscle weakness is affecting your daily activities, or if you start having trouble with balance, make an appointment to see your doctor and rule out other potentially dangerous issues.
None of this is medical advice. It is educational material drawn from FAT BITCH: Killing the Willpower Myth by Cat Clark, and it does not replace your prescriber, your pharmacist, or your actual doctor.
