Is taking a GLP-1 the easy way out?
No. It treats a biological condition. Willpower was never the variable.
No. The willpower myth is the belief that obesity is a moral failing or a lack of character rather than a biological condition we finally have a treatment for.
What the medicine actually does: blocks excess glucose release, boosts insulin production, slows stomach emptying, quiets food noise in the brain, and reduces inflammation. None of that is a shortcut around effort. It is the correction of a signal that was broken.
You will still be doing the protein, the fiber, the movement, the therapy and the boundaries. The medicine just stops you fighting your own biology while you do it.
None of this is medical advice. It is educational material drawn from FAT BITCH: Killing the Willpower Myth by Cat Clark, and it does not replace your prescriber, your pharmacist, or your actual doctor.
