Ozempic Babies

Increased fertility on GLP-1s. The birth control pill is not reliable on these medications.

Definition

The phenomenon of increased fertility on GLP-1s. This occurs as semaglutide or tirzepatide helps to balance hormones and reduce systemic inflammation. The birth control pill is not effective on GLP-1s.

Why it matters

Slowed gastric emptying affects how oral contraceptives are absorbed. If you are on the pill and do not want to be pregnant, this is a conversation to have with your prescriber before your next dose, not after.
