Sulfur Burps
Common. Sulfur burps taste like rotten eggs.
Why it happens
Food hangs around so long that it essentially starts to ferment. If you start tasting “the egg,” take it as a sign that your digestion has stalled. Skip the heavy steak and switch to liquid-leaning meals until the air clears.
How to prevent it
Try eating smaller meals and avoiding any carbonated beverages. While adjusting to the new pace of digestion, and again with each medication increase, avoid foods with insoluble fiber that can tend to stick around and cause discomfort.
How to treat it
Try OTC options like Pepto Bismol, antacids, or baking soda for stomach upset.
When to call a doctor
When the discomfort interferes with daily activities or quality of life, or when you experience pain for days at a time.
