Anhedonia
Emotional numbness. A temporary graying of pleasure, driven by dopamine signaling, not personality.
Definition
Emotional numbness. A temporary “graying” of pleasure where things that used to excite you feel flat. This is a biological shift in your dopamine signaling, not a permanent loss of personality.
Why it matters
For years food was a primary dopamine hit. When the medicine mutes that reward, the brain can feel flat, as if the color has been drained from the room. It is a neurochemical shift, not a character flaw, and it is the reason the book builds a Joy List instead of telling you to cheer up.
